- Understanding Breakbulk
Breakbulk refers to the process where multiple individual orders are consolidated into a single “mother shipment”. This consolidated shipment clears customs as one entry and is then broken down again into individual deliveries for final distribution.

- Label the baby shipment while indicating on which mother pallet it will be placed (we create mother shipment in the background)
- When all baby shipments labelled, book the mother shipment
- Track & trace both baby and mother shipments through their lifecycle
- Required Action
To proceed, please contact your DHL representative at DHL and request:
- Enable Break bulk in my-dhl-api for your DHL account number
- Enter your DHL credentials in Viya (onboarding step)
- Add your DHL hub(s) and importer of record addresses (ordering step)
- Make a test shipment
