Breakbulk Handling – Process & Next Steps

  1. Understanding Breakbulk

Breakbulk refers to the process where multiple individual orders are consolidated into a single “mother shipment”. This consolidated shipment clears customs as one entry and is then broken down again into individual deliveries for final distribution.

  • Label the baby shipment while indicating on which mother pallet it will be placed (we create mother shipment in the background)
  • When all baby shipments labelled, book the mother shipment
  • Track & trace both baby and mother shipments through their lifecycle
  1. Required Action

To proceed, please contact your DHL representative at DHL and request:

  • Enable Break bulk in my-dhl-api for your DHL account number
  • Enter your DHL credentials in Viya (onboarding step)
  • Add your DHL hub(s) and importer of record addresses (ordering step)
  • Make a test shipment
